Seattle Animal Shelter seeking temporary foster parents for cats and kittens

SEATTLE — It’s still the “busy season” for cats and kittens at the Seattle Animal Shelter. If you have room in your home and in your heart, you may want to consider volunteering to provide temporary foster care to rehabilitate sick, injured and immature cats and kittens and prepare them for adoption.

“Seattle Animal Shelter continues to be inundated with cats and kittens, many of which are too sick or too young to be adopted,” says Seattle Animal Shelter Director Don Jordan. “Volunteers and staff are working together to rehabilitate these animals in an effort to get them ready for adoption, but we are at a point where we need help from the community.”

Jordan says the foster care program is quite simple: you provide food and a temporary home; Seattle Animal Shelter will provide any necessary veterinary care. Seattle Animal Shelter’s “Help the Animals Fund” subsidizes the costs associated with the foster care program. This is another effort by the Seattle Animal Shelter to increase the number of adoptions and reduce the number of animals that are needlessly euthanized each year.

Foster Care Volunteer Orientations for cats and kittens are held the first Saturday of each month -- the next one is set for Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon. in the conference room at the Seattle Animal Shelter, followed by a special tour of the Seattle Animal Shelter.
